“In the 1939 County Final against Beara in Skibbereen Mick Finn was picked in midfield and his partner was the talented but youthful minor Tadhgo Crowley.
Parading around the field before the game Tadhgo looked across at the two opposing Beara midfielder's and was stunned by the sheer physical size and strength of the Beara men.
In desperation he poked Mick in the back and asked “Holy God, Mick, which one of those two giants am I supposed to be marking?” Without batting an eye lid and with all the calm of an experienced campaigner Mick answered over his shoulder:
“Tis all right Tadhgo boy. You just play the ball and I’ll mark the two lads”. Well Tadhgo did, Mick Did, and Clon won their first senior County football Final.”
